McAleer named GM of merging credit unions

Caisse Horizon Credit Union General Manager Colin McAleer has been named to the same position for the new amalgamated credit union in the Peace Country.
The appointment was announced last week by Bernie Fedorowicz, president of the committee representing the amalgamating credit unions boards of Caisse Horizon, La Glace, and Manning.
“Colin will be responsible for the coordination and merger of the operations of the three credit unions, and achieving the objectives of the board strategies,” said Fedorowicz.
McAleer will be responsible for ensuring a high standard of quality service to credit union members, based in his office in Girouxville.
“I’m very excited about this and it’s going to be very interesting,” said McAleer. “It’s going to be a big challenge but something I will enjoy very much.”
Caisse Horizon general manager for two years, he has 30 years of credit union experience in Alberta and Saskatchewan, serving many rural and agricultural communities.
The amalgamated credit union will operate under the interim name of Caisse Horizon Credit Union Ltd. and will be amalgamated Nov. 1, 2002..
“We’re quite positive with the progress,” said McAleer. “Everything is on track.”
As the general manager of the yet-to-be-named credit union, he has a staff of about 45 in a total of six branches.
McAleer is quite familiar with the Peace Country, also having worked with Alberta Credit Union Central in a consulting role and worked with the board of Peace region credit unions for many years.
“This experience has provided him with the skills necessary to our multi-branch credit union, the 14th largest credit union in Alberta,” said Fedorowicz.
